What it is

A market the size of a city

Sederek is not a shop or a single pavilion but a whole trading city: dozens of long buildings with multicoloured roofs stretch across a valley between hills on the south-western outskirts of Baku. People come here both for wholesale and for a single purchase.

The market is called the largest and cheapest trade centre in the Caucasus. Thousands of people and hundreds of trucks pass through it every day; for traders from Georgia and Russia, Sederek has long been the region's main gateway for goods.

The main gateway for goods

Sederek has become not just a Baku bazaar but a wholesale hub for the whole South Caucasus: from here goods spread across Azerbaijan and travel on to buyers in Georgia and Russia.
